Our History

The Foundation

Margaret G. Samuels

Eva Samuels, the daughter, and  Dr. Heather Jones, the granddaughter of Margaret G. Smaules founded The Margaret G. Samuels Foundation to honor the legacy of giving. Like her mother, Eva believes in “giving back” and has inspired others in her family to do the same. It was based on this belief that the Margaret G. Samuels Foundation was created.

Known affectionately as “Miss Maggie”, Margaret G. Samuels was a kind and gentle woman who gave her time and effort to help those in need. She was known to do without in order to give to others. Born on October 7, 1907, Margaret was an active member of her community and the Riverside Methodist Church. She was a strong believer in education and religion and ensured that her children were consistently involved in both.

A Legacy Continued

In 2005 Eva and her niece, Dr. Jones began their willingness to bring others to action. They focused their attention on the place of Eva’s birth, Hanover, Jamaica, and a school there that is close and dear to her heart, Riverside All Aged School. Why Riverside? Because it was the school that she attended as a young girl. With the help of her family, she gathered school supplies, food, toys, and clothing and sent down 2 barrels to support the children attending Riverside and the surrounding community. She has since started a now three-year relationship with the staff at Riverside and members of the local Seventh-Day Adventist Church. After visiting the school in the summer of 2006, Eva’s commitment to assisting the children at Riverside was reconfirmed when she was able to see firsthand the importance of the work she has now committed herself and her family to.

In the summer of 2008, Dr. Jones and the Francis family sent down 3 barrels containing not only supplies for the children at Riverside but also medical supplies which was forwarded to a local Hanover clinic.

Today, Eva Samuels and her family continue to donate monies and supplies to the Riverside All Aged School with the hopes of promoting education and a brighter future.
